We are almost through with the marathon holiday party week. One more to go tomorrow--choir party. It has been quite a week. Something going on every day and every night. The one thing I do not like so much about southern parties--you've got to bring food. I've made three cheesecakes and two salads just for parties. That doesn't include all the gifts for the ladies at the retirement home that had to be bought, wrapped and delivered--although that part was fun.
Good news, son comes home on Monday!! He's 'between jobs' (to quote his dad) and has the time for a visit. His girlfriend comes on Monday week, followed by daughter and her boyfriends the next Tuesday. We hope to have a great Christmas!
I loved being in Nashville with friends and love being busy, but sometime I've got to do some Christmas shopping and decorate my house, and go to KY to deliver pkgs. Not sure what won't get done, but it's looking like I may have to choose something to let go.
Meanwhile I'm pretty grateful we can have a fairly decent holiday this year what with the world falling apart economically, at least. So, just to have all the kiddos home is more present than I could think to ask for. We haven't all been together in this house we've lived in for a year, so I'm really looking forward to the short visit together.
Knitting--whew, I'm a knitting fool. Scarves, socks, etc. for everybody. Even started one for my 86 yo mother.
Reading--going slow with so much going on. Still working on America America by Ethan Canin.
So for now, partying and preparing, that's the way it is. See y'all.

This Week in Nashville
Thanksgiving turned out to be a good day. My sister managed to host all of us (over 20) with great food, good talk, and great grace on her part. We managed to get along really well. Of course we stayed away from politics and religion.
But we did share pictures of our beloved Riley who was killed in July at the age of four. Her mom and dad brought pics for all of us along with bracelets to wear until after the trial next year. She was killed by an habitual criminal in a hit and run situation. Horribly sad and tortuous for her parents--along with the rest of us.
My mother-in-law is down with pneumonia and not doing well enough yet. Father-in-law is in Memphis with my husband for a few days. He will be with us for husband's 61 birthday on Friday. I'll be back to coordinate the celebration or lack thereof.
Then after a quick weekend in KY with Mother and sister, I've been here in Nashville in a knitting marathon with long-time wonderful friend. I've also celebrated a birthday with another friend and visited with her family. Done some, not enough, shopping.
So, tomorrow, back to the real world of holiday prep and lots of parties and activities. Twill be the busyness of the season. Still hoping both children come home for Christmas along with their boyfriend/girlfriend.
Knitting this week included shawls and scarves and socks and such. Am reading America, America. It takes place during the Nixon era and is pretty good. I brought more to read but didn't get to it, so the week after Christmas is the now designated reading time.
Til I'm back in Memphis, that's the way it is. See y'all.
